The Brooklyn Fire department is an all volunteer fire department with the exception of them having 1 full time engineer and 1 part time. The department was founded in 1962. They have 2 fire stations, their station 1 which is located in Brooklyn and their station 2 which is located in Garlands Crossing.
At their station 1 they have the following pieces of apparatus: Tanker 2, Squad 3, Pumper/Tanker 4, Rescue 5, Tower 6, Rescue 7, Off Road Rescue 8 and their Special Ops/Ice Rescue/Off Road Rescue Trailer. At their station 2 they have: Pumper/Tanker 1, Squad 9, Tanker 10 & Rescue 11. Both stations are paged at the same time for all emergencies in the Brooklyn Fire Department coverage area and respond accordingly based on what is needed for apparatuses and manpower. The department also has numerous protocols in place with neighboring fire departments within the West Hants Municipality such as Windsor & Hantsport. Out of their 2 stations they cover a whopping 31 communities! They are able to provide such a large coverage area with their 69 members which consist of 1 Fire Chief, 2 Deputy Fire Chiefs, 6 Captains & 3 Safety Officers, 50 Firefighters & 7 Junior Firefighters. Like many other fire departments the Brooklyn Fire Department does a lot of then just firefighting. They also do vehicle extrication, ice rescue, off road rescue and they also provide medical first response services. Recently the Brooklyn Fire Department responded to a historical large-scale flooding incident within their district. The department along with numerous other departments and agencies worked tirelessly to save numerous individuals.
