The Southville and Area fire department was founded in 1975, by local community members Warren Cromwell, Ralph Cromwell, Earl Sabine & Walter Sabine. It severs 3 small communities Southville, Riverdale and Danvers, but has had a full mutual aid response with Havelock Fire Department for many years.
The department is a member of the Clare Fire Fighters Association as well as the Digby Fire Fighters Association, as their districts borders both Clare and Digby.
The Department has President, Vice president, Chief, Deputy Chief, Captain and Lieutenant.
They have 3 apparatuses which are a Pumper, Tanker and Rescue Truck.
The department has held a Pickerel Fishing tournament for the last 18 years, they had missed a few tournaments during Covid, but they were able to resume in 2022. Also, in the last 5 years they have added a fall tournament for bragging rights!
